Based in Sweden, the Gothia Cup is the LARGEST football tournament of its kind in the world! It’s a grand celebration of the great game that welcomes U11 – U18 girls’ and boys’ teams from across the globe.

This tournament is well and truly kitted out! You have the Heden Center (the headquarters), Kviberg centre (with a whopping 28 pitches), SKF Arena (the main pitch with a capacity for nearly 8000 spectators), and even a leaders lounge for coaches to discuss their teams and tactics. Expect everything from cracking competition, fun activities and challenges to souvenir stores, food courts, and bars!

The Gothia Cup attracts a whopping 1,700 teams from 80 countries! This event has football down to a fine art, with 2025 marking its 49th edition. Thousands of matches are played, tens of thousands of goals are scored, and the memories created are simply unforgettable…

The tournament celebrates diversity in football and encourages teams to meet and play regardless of race, religion and background. Throughout the event, there will be opportunities to explore the local area, meet other teams, and enjoy the food, drink and fun that Gothenburg has to offer.

What to expect

Arrive in Gothenburg and check to your accommodation. Head over to Heden centre to register your team and soak up the electric atmosphere.

18:30: The Opening Ceremony! Gates open from 18:30 and the ceremony kicks off at 8PM! This event sets the scene for an epic week of football and fun! A two-hour long celebration – we’re talking music, dancing, fireworks, and of course, a presentation of all participating nations! Then… on with the tournament! Once you’re done with matches for the day, spend the rest of your time at leisure.

Continue with your tournament games! After an action-packed day, slow down the pace as you explore the sights and attractions of the local area.

This day sees the last of the group matches, then play offs begin!

Yes, you will need formal permission to tour abroad. Please check with your local FA or RFU for the latest guidelines on international travel and participation.

Age groups in Europe are generally based on calendar years (January 1 – December 31), while in the UK they’re based on school years (September 1 – August 31). This means your team might need to play in a higher age category (e.g., a UK U10 might play as a European U11). Many tournaments allow for up to 3 players born in the latter part of the year to compete in the lower category, but more than 3 players born after September may need to play in the higher age group. This is a common practice and won’t affect your team’s performance.
