Football has always been a powerful force for bringing communities together. With the rise of women’s football, youth football for girls is playing an increasingly important role in uniting communities while providing young girls with a platform to build confidence, teamwork, and leadership skills.

The Lionesses’ triumph at Euro 2022 on home soil sparked a surge of interest, with nearly 1,500 new women’s and girls’ teams registering in the following season. Their continued success, including their 2025 victory in Switzerland, shows young girls across the UK that playing at the highest level is truly within reach.

With the Lionesses leading the way, the growth of girls’ football has never been more exciting. Local clubs and tournaments are now nurturing the next generation of female athletes, inspiring dreams and shaping the future of the game.

The Role of Tournaments in Supporting Youth Football for Girls

Tournaments play an important role in the development of youth football, and this is especially true for girls’ football. They offer the perfect platform for players to showcase their skills, test their abilities, and compete at a higher level.

At Sports Tours, we run girls’ and ladies football tournament weekends with the goal of fostering competitive spirit, skill development, and teamwork. These tournaments offer girls the chance to challenge themselves in a supportive yet competitive environment. Through such events, girls gain valuable exposure to different playing styles, which helps them grow as athletes. And with international football tournaments, girls are given the unique opportunity to compete against players from different backgrounds, gaining global exposure and broadening their football horizons.

Hannah Hampton: A Rising Goalkeeping Star and an Inspiration for Future Generations

Hannah Hampton, England’s remarkable goalkeeper, is not just a rising star in women’s football – she’s a testament to what resilience really means. Born with strabismus, a serious eye condition that left her with extremely poor depth perception, she underwent three operations before she was three years old.

Doctors even warned her parents that she shouldn’t play football, but she refused to listen. As she grew older, her impaired vision continued to challenge her: she struggled to judge how close the ball was, suffered broken fingers, and even regular nosebleeds, yet she adapted her technique, reworked her positioning, and turned her disadvantage into a strength.

Her determination paid off. The same resilience that got her through childhood health battles now anchors her performances for club and country. From being told she couldn’t play, she’s risen to the pinnacle of women’s football – becoming a leader, a world-class shot-stopper, and BBC’s Women’s Football of the Year 2025.

The Future of Football

The future of women’s football is undeniably bright, but to ensure it continues to thrive, we must keep investing in and promoting youth football for girls.

At Sports Tours, we’re proud to support this growth by offering youth girls’ and ladies’ football tournament weekends. By investing in the next generation, we not only raise the standard of the game but also equip young players with the confidence, skills, and role models they need to succeed. As Hannah Hampton has shown, with the right opportunities, determination, and support, there are no limits to what girls can achieve in football.
